Jambo! We are the Takataka Club, a group of eco-vigilantes going against the grain by being decent human beings. Since 2020, we’ve picked up over 5,000 bags of trash while working closely with CalTrans and the Forest Service.
We meet every Tuesday morning at 8:00am on the Angeles Crest Highway.

We would be SO happy if you’d join us in helping clean up the Angeles National Forest!

Learn More About Takataka Club

Takataka Club History

It all started in 2020, when Valerie Botta and Betty Cooper noticed that trash was piling up along the Angeles Crest Highway. One day they decided to take matters into their own hands and began cleaning the trash up themselves!

Where We Meet

We begin our cleanups at one of the first turnouts of the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) when entering from La Cañada.

What to Bring

We will supply pickers, bags, vests, and gloves, but we recommend you show up wearing durable pants, close-toed shoes, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a bottle of water!

What Our Volunteers Are Saying

  • When Valerie asked me to help her pick up trash on the Angeles Crest Highway I jumped at the chance!  I belong to many volunteer groups but nothing quite like this. I love coming out here every week to this beautiful place to do my part in keeping the highway clean.  I have been with the group since day one in July 2020 and have no intention of stopping.

  • I love cleaning up because these are our mountains, and we want to share what we have with others.  Keeping them clean helps others see what a treasure they are.  It is incredibly satisfying to see many full bags waiting for Caltrans pickup on the side of the road after just one hour with other volunteers.

  • I never would have realized cleaning up trash could be so fun and therapeutic, but it really is! I look forward to every Tuesday for the opportunity to get out into the beautiful mountains and fresh air and help make our world a little more beautiful… it truly fills up my soul.
